WORLD LANGUAGE
As part of the BCS mission to nurture children to become positively contributing global citizens, the World Language program is available to every student, beginning in kindergarten. Mandarin instruction is part of our CORE+ curriculum and Spanish instruction is offered to upper elementary and middle school students. We integrate language programs with additional cultural experiences so that learners gain a deeper appreciation for the world around them and develop valuable skills for the future.
Our investment supports eight language specialist teachers who integrate with our classroom teachers as well as offer a variety of co- and extra-curricular classes tailored to ignite student passion and extend learning in global cultural awareness
CELEBRATING LUNAR
NEW YEAR
Our youngest learners, in TK & Kindergarten, kicked off Chinese New Year celebrations by learning about the twelve zodiac animals and how to determine their zodiac sign based on their birth year.
They then delved into the legend of "Nian," which provided a deeper understanding of the traditional customs and celebrations associated with the Chinese New Year.
To bring the celebration to life, they made dragon puppets and performed the "dragon dance" (kids’ version of course).
The celebration concluded with each learner receiving a red envelope as a symbol of good luck and wishes for the New Year after they respectfully greeted their teacher in a culturally appropriate manner.
